Ministry

Our ministry was born out of our love for music. We love to sing, and we love to sing about the Lord Jesus Christ.

In April, 2009, we followed the call of God on our lives into full-time music ministry. We are learning to listen to His voice as He continues to lead us in this adventure.

"Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises." (Psalm 47: 6)

Our Underlying Principles

We believe in the inerrent, divinely-inspired Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. The Holy Scripture is God's written word and is authoritative in every area of life, both belief and practice.

We believe that God loves us, but that we are separated from Him by our sinful nature. God's redemption for mankind is found through His Son, Jesus Christ. By finding a relationship with Jesus, we can walk in fellowship with God. The central means of learning about God is through His Word, the Holy Bible.

Next to having a relationship with God, our family is most important. By working together, we strengthen and encourage each other to help one another live the Christian life in the world. Our goal, as a family, is to encourage others to seek God and follow His Word in their personal, family and church lives.

We believe that we honor God through music that emphasizes melody and harmony, in a way that lets the message of the words be heard and understood, with rhythm used as means of moving the melody along. To invert this pattern corrupts the music and prevents the message from being heard.

Our faith can be summarized in the words of the Apostle's Creed, the Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed.

Program Format

Our programs reflect our beliefs. We play "Front-Porch Family-Style" music, most of which is taken from a bluegrass or folk tradition. We strive to keep our music light-hearted, although the subject matter is not trivial. Our hope is that families are encouraged and built up, and together they will make a difference in their neighboorhoods and the world.

A typical program will incorporate several styles and tempos of music, most with instrumental accompaniment, but also several a capella numbers are usually included, and an occassional instrumental thrown in. We trade the lead back and forth between ourselves, to create a variety in the presentation.

Normally, a concert will range in length from 60 to 75 minutes (an hour to an hour-and-a-quarter). We are happy to include special requests, if we know them. If there is a theme for the time together, we can try to arrange our program to direct attention to that. We would ask that the Pastor or an elder open or close the time together in prayer, so that the focus of the concert is on God.

Compensation

We play at churches on a love-offering basis. We look to the Lord to meet our needs, and not to any one church or individual. Please consider that we do have travel expenses over and above our normal living expenses. We hope that you will consider how the Lord would have you be involved in meeting our needs as we come. If you would prefer to have a set "fee", we will try and negotiate enough to cover our needs. We ask that we can set up a table in the lobby to display our CDs. Our intent in offering CDs is that people can take our music home and be encouraged there as well.

Non-Church Events

We are comfortable playing at almost any venue. We sing mostly gospel music. We are able to include some music that is not gospel music, but it will continue to be family-friendly and looks for the lighter side of life. We sing bluegrass-style music, but a lot of bluegrass music is not appropriate for us: we do not sing bar songs, broken-hearted love songs, or murder ballads. We love fiddle tunes, and can include some of these in our concerts. We have played at many festivals, fairs and other community events, and have been well-received. We will be happy to talk with you about how we can help to make your program a success!
